Slacking

Well its been cold, realllly cold so progress on old girl has come to a crawls pace.which is ok. Im gathering up everything i need for the projects ahead.

The wiring replacement seems like it will be a lot easier than initially anticipated. With a negative buss, electrical panel, battery, battery switch, shore hookup all going to be new as well as cabin, mast and nav lights. Its literally going to be a rip out of everything old and replace with all new.

Ive learned a lot more about the epoxy projects as well. The bow has a small area that needs attention. The inside lower cabin, under the seats needs some as well. The biggest will be under the mast compression beam.

And alllll wood interior pieces are being replaced with oak. Cheap, simple and nice looking at a fraction of the cost.

Happy New Year!!!

I got a call yesterday from my boss saying he needed the trailer tires that are on my boat trailer. Oh and by thursday.

So since i borred a friends truck to get my boat home it was up to the little Mazda to move the boat around the yard to get access to the tires. Its a tight squeeze in the side yard. Crazy enough she was up to the task.

Need new wood!!!

Well i decided since it was so nice i should start pulling the bulkheads and such out. Anything wood that needs replacing is coming out.

So far ive got the bulkheads an 90% of the covers out. Im going with Red oak based on recommendations from the sail boat owners website. A lot cheaper then sheets of teak. I want to rebuild it and make it nice, not bankrupt me and my project. It has to be affordable but still look nice. Sailing into Newport i wont expect any looks other then "wow, thats a 71? Thats in good shape."

So hopefully this week i can start the measuring and cutting. You will be in for a suprise. I plan on making it a little bit different then stock setup.

Winter blues

So sitting here browsing anything and everything Catalina 22 and my local bay's ive come to realize i need to save a little more then i first thoght. The outboard that came with the boat is in very rough shape. Personally i dont feel like being out on the bay have no wind and no way to move, or coming into a harbor and loose my power. So that expence gets added. No big deal though i knew it would probably happen.

Secondly a mooring. i like the idea of trailering the boat but honestly i really don't feel like raising and lowering the mast every time i want to go out. Maybe one day after work i wanna take a quick sail. Well thats not going to happen is i trailer to and from everytime.

Well time to start pricing out mooring options as well as tender, pram and dinghy options.
